(Brian’s basement gym)

Brian is seen training for his upcoming match at Overdrive, after coming so close to beating Neela for the SCW World Title, he needs to train harder. He knows this is the match of his life, coming back less than three months ago. And he is on top of the ladder, facing Neela for the World Championship will likely never happen again, this time he has to win. He was working hard at keeping himself undefeated and he finally lost a match. He has missed out on several years of wrestling and is trying to make up for those lost years. The years he has been away from the ring. As he finishes his last set on incline bench he racks the bar and sits up.

Scotty: “So, the newest members of The Empire was revealed at the PPV??”

Brian: “Yeah, and I know people were surprised at who it was. I am glad I beat RDS , and we beat Cash and Justin. Business first, I need to see if this other person is going to join us.”

Scotty: “But, has he made his mind up yet? I know your wanting to. We have a lot of things to catch up on. Too many people has forgotten who we are Brian. Or they want us to think that way, we are the best and I know that you need help in SCW. But, me signing with UCW is about all I can do now. I am not young like I was several years ago. I prolly only have a year or two left in the tank. I know when to call it quits.”

Brian: “Yeah I know, but when your one of the best, they always use those tactics to try and make you think bull shit. But, like you taught me along time ago. You have to always be ready. Mentally, physically and emotionally. I got this. You taught me well.”

Scotty: “I was contacted and asked if I wanted a contract with SCW, I am not sure if I am going to do it or not. I UCW is enough for me right now. Maybe UHW, shit I helped open those doors. I remember those good old days.”

Brian: “I am there, waiting for you cousin. We will reign supreme in UHW once again. You see, a lot of people try and say I lead this family. We are equals, Scotty, I will never think I am better than you are. Blood is thicker than water. Did you see how Wilz acted when we showed up? Are you signing with UHW?”

Scotty nods his head.

Scotty: “Thank you cousin, and yes I am, not sure when I will actually go, but enough putting off your next set. Now, next bench.”

Scotty is pushing his younger cousin, training him to be the Champion that he was for over ten years. Brian walks over to the decline bench and lays back. He unracks the 315 and starts his set. Scotty is standing over him just in case. He busts his set out and racks the weight.

Brian: “Let me ask you a serious question, am I wrong for allowing Melissa to sign with UCW? I mean, seriously, come on.”

Scotty cuts his cousin off.

Scotty: “Hey dude, this is between you and her. She is the type of woman who will go do what ever she wants. After all those years she has stood beside you and this is what she asks from you. You better sit back and let her do this. I know you love her man. But for real, trying to control her, that would end the two of you..”

Brian lays back and does his last set. When he finishes he sits back up. This when Andrew walks into the gym. Brian looks at his partner smirking as Andrew walks over and joins up with the two of his friends.

Andrew: “Well, I think that we should celebrate, because you will not believe who just called me.”

Brian already knows who it is, this is one of the phone calls he has been waiting for now for weeks.

( A few hours later)

Melissa is sitting across the table from Brian, a man she loves more than anything. They are dinning at the Moot House, in Fort Collins. A fine restaurant that serves only the upper class people of northern Colorado. She wants to feel that connection and that is the real reason she signed with UCW. She wants to share everything with the man she loves. As she looks up at Brian.

Mel: “Bri, I just want you to know I love you. I would never do anything to hurt you and I know your still mad at me for signing that contract. But, I just want you to give me that chance that Scotty took on you several years ago. I know I can be the greatest woman wrestler in this business. Look at who I got to train me!”

Brian: “Listen, I trust your choice in this matter, just listen to me. You have the entire Empire willing to train you and make you the best. I just don’t want to see you get hurt.”

He pauses looking for the right words to make sure his woman, his vitals to understand his feelings.

Brian: “Ever, because if you got hurt and it was because of what I am doing, then I would never forgive myself. I just wish you would understand that. I already put you through enough pain.”

Brian feels that him going to prison caused a great deal of pain to his future wife. Even though he went to prison protecting her, his time away from her and the emotional toll it took on her, it caused some changes that will never be undone. He knows this and so does she. For him it made him feel that he has to protect her from him. For her, it made her feel that she has to prove that she won’t leave no matter what.

Brian: “Maybe one day, one day you will understand where I am coming from.”

Mel: “Honey, you don’t realize that I already do understand? I know you better than you know yourself, you should have learned that while you were gone.”

Brian finishes his plate of food, calls for the check while Melissa gathers her coat and purse. As she puts on her coat, the talk that they had during their dinner made her tired and she is in no mood for anymore discussion about any of it. Brian is pushing her away and she has no clue as to why. Brian doesn’t mean to do it, it is just happening. If she didn’t know him better, she would swear that he was using some drugs or something. But, Brian would never do that. He has been sober now for over 7 years and she is proud of him for that.

Brian: “Mel, I am going to drop you off and go see Moses for a while. It has been forever since I have last seen him. I know that he would like to hear this new system in the car.”

Moses is Brian’s friend who he has known now for 7 years, ever since he moved to Colorado in 2005. They have been having a hard time hanging out due to Brian’s extensive schedule from his wrestling career. Either way you look at it. They needed that time to talk. Brian needed some down time from the wrestling life. The change from nothing being in a prison cell, working out, to never stopping was wearing on Brian and he wouldn’t admit it to no one.

(Later that night)

Brian is sitting at the kitchen table with Moses, drinking a bottle of Budweiser while playing a few hands of cards. Scotty has shown up and they are three friends worrying about nothing but what is in front of them. Something that has not been going on for Brian now since his return to the ring.

Moses: “So, you beat RDS, how does it feel to finally get that win?”

Brian: “Yeah, that was one match I wasn’t worried about, it is Neela that I know will be the tough one. She beat me at Spring Meltdown, but this time I won‘t happen again!”

Scotty: “She would be great in The Empire cousin. You know it too.”

Brian: “Yeah, but I doubt she would even think about joining, did you hear what she said?”

Brian pulls out his phone, links it to SCW.Com allowing the two watch what she said before the last match. By the end of it Brian is already thinking that he needs to come back with something. This is one match he needs to win, has to win. Suffering the loss was enough to make Brian realize that this is not the business that they were in before. This time it is different This would be a defining moment in his career, since he returned no other company has offered him any sort of Title Shot, and he has been working hard to make sure his undefeated streak continued, this one loss hurt him and hurt his pride. That loss at this point in his return would mean that he might not be what he thought he was.

Scotty: “I remember when she signed with VOW, you were wrong Bri, she has only been wrestling for two years..”

Brian: “Yeah, but I said it. It doesn’t mean that I am still not a fan of hers. I like her. I think that this will be my biggest match since my return, and she already holds one win over me. I don‘t want another. And I have went against some great wrestlers.”

Moses: “Well, I talked to my cousin, J-Dogg he returned, to UHW, but you know he is going to do his own thing. I just wanted you to know Bri, because you might cross paths. If you do, remember he is my Family”

Brian looks as Moses, knowing that if this goes wrong and if J-Dogg for some reason goes against The Empire, it could mean losing a friend.

Brian: “Homie, unless he goes against us, there will be no reason for us to ever have issues. I swear it. But, if I don‘t get outta here and back home, Melissa is going to kill me.”

Moses shakes Brian’s hand as Brian and Scotty start cleaning up. In the morning Brian is going to speak on what Neela had to say. Yeah, she made some points, but unless she is brain dead, she should understand what Brian will say this time. They finish cleaning up and Brian leaves.

(A few hours later)

Moses calls up Brian, he has seen the card for Grand Slam and as he feared Death Sentence is going up against Brown Pride. Something that he was hoping wouldn’t happen. They talk for a few moments and Brian hangs up the phone as he pulls in the drive way of his house. Mel is already waiting at the door for him. She looks at her man as he walks up the drive way to the house, she already knows that this second chance at winning the SCW is something huge for him and wants to help her man any way she can.

Mel: “So, I made you a bath so you can soak and think about some stuff, after you get done, we can cuddle and watch any movie you want.”

Brian: “Thank you love, and I needed that. You seem to know me and everything I want or need when it comes to.”

Mel: “That is what a real relationship is about, and go take your bath!”

She rushes her man to the bathroom and helps him undress. At this point he kisses her. Knowing where this is leading.

(The next morning)

Brian wakes up and looks at his soon to be wife. He loves her more than anything in this world and wouldn’t choose nothing over her. He gets dressed and sneaks out of the room making sure he doesn’t wake her up, he drives straight down to the gym where a camera man is waiting for him so he can make his first on camera appearance since Spring Meltdown. He listens to some of his old friends music as he rushes down to the gym, for some reason he hits every red light in Fort Collins. As he pulls in, Andrew is already there waiting for him, they are going to train some after he does his interview.

Andrew: “It’s about time, I been waiting for over an hour.”

Brian: “Yeah, I got hit by every damn red light in the country and also a damn train. I should have never left Baltimore.”

Andrew: “You can always go back, I know you still have your club and your restaurant waiting for you.”

Brian: “I might, but until there I got other things to worry about, is the camera man here?”

Andrew nods and points towards the back of the gym, where they are already set up waiting for him to come back there. Brian takes off his jacket as the weather is still sort of cold. The wind is really blowing today. Andrew takes Brian’s jacket to the weight area and Brian heads back to make his interview. The camera pans out to watch Brian walking back he is wearing his Empire shirt and some jeans. He has a confident look on his face considering that he lost his match against Neela. As he walks up he looks at the camera and nods his head.

Brian: “Neela, I want to say thank you, thank you for one hell of a match. At several points I thought I had you. But, as I thought, you are one hell of a wrestler. One hell of woman, and while most people would sit there talking about how you’re a woman and don’t belong in the ring. This proves that you do, and that you are just as good as I am. And at Spring Meltdown, you proved that point to the end. “

Brian shakes his head and smirks.

Even though I did get a three count, why I wasn’t declared the winner? Beats me, but I promise you this Neela, you will be beaten this time. I know your style, and I know how you work in the ring. You are a pro for sure, and I been a fan of yours for a while now, before my return. But,

He pauses gathering his thoughts.

This is not about me being a fan, this is not about what happened at Spring Meltdown. I am very thankful for Jordan giving me another chance to face off against you for The SCW World Title, and this time. I will do what ever it takes. If this means knocking you out like I did Sadler. I will do it. If it means busting you open and tasting your own blood. So be it. You got the win and no one can take that away from you. I am not even going to get stuck on the questionable win you got. A win is a win. Your still holding MY belt. So now, you are going to have to face me again, looking me in my eyes and knowing that this time around it is a different ball game.

He stops in mid sentence, knowing that he can not go too far, because he doesn’t want to offend her. She is one of the few wrestlers in this business that he respects. If he says the wrong thing, then he might feel bad in the end. Brian is really trying to change some of his ways when it comes to Wrestling. Yes he is part of a faction who goes to any lengths to obtain what they want. This match here, he wants to be a straight up and fair match.

You see, I am sure you are thinking that I underestimated you. I never, what I did do how ever is over estimate myself, thinking that I was completely ready for our match. You come in and done what I would expect you to do, be a fighting champion. I am working even harder to train and come in to Overdrive ready to take you to your limit. I already know I done so with our match. It showed in your face. It showed when you got mad and fought with the ref about one of your pin attempts. You see, Neela, you have three things going for yourself. Your beautiful, smart and you got skill. These are your tools in this business. These are your tools when it comes to wrestling that took you to the top. We all know it, we all know what it takes.

As for me? I am what they call an outcast, that is why I formed my family, all of us are World Champions, many times over have we done what you are doing right now. But, one thing I learned about you Neela, is that you’re a woman of few words. While you have no respect for me, that is fine. Respect is something that is a moot point in this match now. We can toss that out the window and worry about the task at hand. You think that you are going to walk in the ring and beat me like you done before. Well think about it again sweetheart. You are going to have the fight of your life. This time around I am not going to take it easy on you. You will learn why I am the Living Legend, You think you have what it takes to knock me down a few notches? You can try, many have tried and everyone of those hacks failed. Neela, you have something going for you. That is you were trained by The Brewsters. But, what makes you think that would make you on a different class of wrestler that I am? What makes you think that your of a different Breed? I was trained by Scotty Edwards, he has a collective of 25 Titles under his belt. How many of those were World Titles, that is not important. What is important is we both have been trained by great teachers and great wrestlers. So, Neela, you should realize something. While you think that you are better than I am, your not. Your no better than any other World Champion. Your not better than half the people I can name. While you claim that you were motivated by Amy and Lynn. Good, you know who I looked up to? I looked up to my older cousin Scotty Edwards and Rabia, Along with Dave McIntyre, and I have defeated all three.

Neela, this is what makes us different. This is the point that I been building up to this entire time. While you have this disillusion that you can’t be defeated. You need to realize that there is someone who can and will beat you. So your comment about continuing your winning ways. At this point you have done it. But sooner or later you will lose, and I plan on making this happen at Overdrive. I want you to think about this very carefully, because this could either make you or break you. You think for a second that you are above someone, well that someone is coming to take what you hold very important in your life. Then what are you going to do? Will that break you to the point where you can’t climb back up and come back to the top? Because I am going to knock you off your perch.

I am sorry that you lost your father, seriously I am. But, if you think that I feel any sympathy for you because of that? I don’t, no one cares in this business who you lost or what your feeling, all they care about is what you can do in that ring. If you feel what I said was harsh?

He pauses.

I’ll stop there and wait for your response. But, Don’t take it personal, It’s just good business.

Fades.

Neela snuggles up to Steve, thinking of her win over Brian Kennedy at Spring Meltdown, but now because Jordan Post said she won but it was controversial, she has to face him again. Steve can tell there is something on Neela’s mind and he has an idea what it is.

Steve: Do you think you can beat him again?

Neela: I’m not even totally sure how I beat him last time. I mean….I know I beat him but I was zoned out and so focused on winning that…..

Steve: It seems like a blur. I can understand that. I’ve been that way before. It happens a lot to my family. That blind anger you see in the ring from Lynn and sometimes Brian? Is caused by that same kind of zone.

Neela: Its crazy. I watch the video of the match and I could tell how focused I was. But now….

The doorbell rings, and Neela looks at Steve.

Neela: Did your sister follow you?

Steve: She better not have. Cam took her home and put her straight to bed. That little stunt of helping Jessica made Cam nervous.

Neela: Then who in the world is here.

Steve: Probably Brian.

The doorbell sounds again and Neela lets out a sigh, then gets up to answer it. Neela opens the front door without checking to see who it is.

Neela: May I help…..

Neela stops mid-sentence as her brother is standing there, suitcase by his feet.

(the following takes place in Japanese, Neela’s native language)

Neela: Hirata, what are you doing here?

Hirata: I came here to tell you it’s been two years and it’s time for you to come home and help me take care of Mom.

Neela: That’s what you and your wife are supposed to be doing. After the way she talked to me when I said I was going to be a wrestler, the last thing in the world that I want is to take care of her!

Hirata: Look, I’m not here to argue. I’m here to take you back to Uruma and take care of mother. She recently fell down and broke her leg in two places. It’s too much for me and Reiko to do. She needs 24 hour care.

Neela: Then I’ll give you the money you need to hire care. I am NOT coming back to Uruma!!

Steve appears and sees this strange man standing in the doorway arguing with Neela.

Steve: I don’t know what you two are arguing about or who he is, but for cripes sake Neela, at least let him in so the whole neighborhood, Brian included, doesn’t hear this.

Neela steps aside and Hirata comes in. He eyes Steve up and down then asks Neela.

Hirata (in Japanese): Who is this man in your home at this hour?

Neela: This is my friend Steve.

Hirata: Friend, or are you sleeping with him?

Steve sees the anger in Neela’s eyes, anger that he’s familiar with….not from Neela, but from Lynn. He sees Neela ball up her fists to stay calm.

Neela: What I’m doing with him is none of your business.

Hirata: Why didn’t you call and let us know you had moved? I went to New York City and Auntie told me you had moved down here.

Neela: I don’t see a need to tell you everything I do, not after the way you treated me, and everything you said! Now leave! I don’t want to talk about this with you.

Neela turns to Steve, ignoring her brother.

Neela: He’s my brother and he came here from Okinawa to try and get me to go home to take care of my mother. I need to talk to him so maybe you should go home for now.

Steve: I don’t want to leave you like this. I have a feeling things will get bad.

Neela: If I have to get out of here, I’ll go over to Brian’s, ok?

Steve leans over and gives Neela a long kiss, all for the express purpose of making her brother mad. As he pulls away he gently strokes her face.

Steve: Call me later and let me know what happens.

Steve brushes past Hirata, glaring at him as he does so. Neela and Hirata watch Steve get in his car and leave, then Hirata turns back to Neela as she shuts the door and spins on her heels.

(back to Japanese)

Neela: As for you Hirata….get out! I’m not going back to a woman who essentially said I’m dead!

Hirata: You know she didn’t mean that Neela. She was angry and upset that you were leaving for the States, that’s all.

Neela: Funny way of showing it! She called me every name in the book. Now she needs help and you want me, the person who treated me that way, and pretend none of that happen. No thank you! I have a life here….I have friends and even someone I care about and I won’t have you here trying to control every moment of my life. I won’t have it!

Neela walks over to the door and looks across the dark ocean, her thoughts torn between her brother’s presence….and her match with Brian Kennedy…

To Be Continued

Several hours later

On Camera

The scene opens to show Neela sitting before the glass door that goes out to her patio and leads to a beach and the Atlantic Ocean in the background. Neela had lived in this home for about a year now, when Lynn had offered to let her move in when Alzy and Logan had moved to Vancouver. She is dressed in light green shirt and jeans, her dark hair loose. In her lap she holds what she retained at Spring Meltdown…the SCW World title.

Neela: The last few times I’ve been in the ring the battles have been harder. But what could I expect with the way SCW is growing, bringing in more and more very talented wrestlers. Jesse Owusu I thought stretched me to my limit, but Brian Kennedy you took me even past that limit to a limit I didn’t know I had. At least you aren’t the type to do what you talked about, you weren’t like others who say I have no business in the ring. Honestly I heard that from my own family before I like Uruma. I remember their hateful words, and it’s those words that drive me every day to be better than the next person.

So you think you know my style, but how do you know that style will remain the same. For you only got a taste of what I can do. I’m in training, working hard to learn even more, and my trainer now is pushing me further than I ever thought I could go. You did an excellent job of it, but I haven’t reached my very limits yet. At this show, I expect I shall.

Neela adjusts in the chair, making sure to keep the title prominent, for it is what this match is about, who will walk out the champion at Overdrive.

You say that you will knock me out. Well I’ve had people bigger and badder than you make that same claim, and they were unsuccessful. You say that you will make me taste my own blood. I’ve done that so that will be nothing new. Yes I still hold this title, but this match is between simply two human beings who excel at what they do. But I do know that you are simply one man, that you aren’t some sort of mutant who is stronger than any human alive.

Neela stops, wondering if he might get the message, that he is truly just a man. Kennedy struck her as the type of guy who simply wanted a straight up match, nothing fancy. This was a time to make her words part of her weapons that she has at hand.

You wouldn’t be the first person to underestimate me. It seems since I set foot in SCW everyone has underestimated me. Hell if you go back to when I started, two years ago people thought that because I was a rookie that I would hardly be able to find myself around a wrestling ring. I’ll be honest …Brian. May I call you Brian? I’ll be honest my first match ever was a battle royal. Yeah I know, hell of a way to break into the business but I lasted longer than anyone expected, eliminating a few people way bigger than me. Hell I still remember the first person I eliminated, some loud mouth hick who kept running his mouth, but I shut him up quickly. Just like I am going to shut you up in that ring. I could tell you weren’t prepared for me to throw everything I had at you, but you must ask yourself a question. Ask yourself was it truly everything I had in me, or is there more that you have yet to see.

Neela takes a drink of water from the bottle at hand while she thinks about her next words.

You’re right, I am a person of few words because I was taught to believe that if a person can’t back up what they say, and then they end up looking ridiculous. I’ve already faced my fair share of them in SCW, I would have to say namely this one girl named Macy Kaos. You would hurt yourself laughing at her. But as for you Brian, I know you can back up your words which is in a way refreshing.

You talk about who trained me, but you left out the most important person in the equation. See you talk about how your family trained you, well my father trained me first. He had me training at the age of fourteen when he learned of my dreams, and he trained me up until two years ago. Upon his death I came to the States and it was then I was approached by Cam Davitt, not Lynn Brewster, and he told me I was good, but he could make me better. Obviously he was right because a year ago I became the SCW World champion. Over that year Cam has continued to train me and he also asked Lynn to help as well. I was honored to have both of these people, both former world champions, take an interest in me and in my career. I do think of them as family now, for reasons I care not to go into.

You say I’m disillusioned and think I can’t be defeated. You’re wrong Brian, Cam told me that out there can always be that person who is just that much better than one can be. You think if you defeat me that I’ll fall all the way to the bottom, I’m not quite sure where you got that idea. If you defeat me, I still remain one of the top wrestlers in this company and maybe I’ll even ask for a rematch. A third match between us to decide once and for all who the best is. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves here, first we have to get through this match. See Brian you talk as if you have already won this match but honestly we won’t know who won until the final bell is rung.

As for my father, I never asked for your sympathy, I was simply stating a fact. My father has gone to the great beyond to join our ancestors and he watches over me now. But know his training, his advice I carry with me every time I climb in that ring. I carry his advice, Cam and Lynn’s advice, and what I’ve learned every time I get in that ring, and I draw on all of that to win. Apparently I’m doing something right because…..well…

Neela holds up the World title belt.

I wouldn’t have held this for a year if I hadn’t heeded all of their advice.

Camera fades to black.

Note: Any conversation between Neela and Hirata is in Japanese.

The scene picks up where we left off, Neela looking out across the ocean. She notices that the ocean has an angry look to it, almost matching what she feels inside. She hears footsteps behinds her, and knows Hirata has come further into the room. Indeed he has, and looks around at the comfort Neela now lives in, comfort like she had at home but in a different way. Instead of the traditional Japanese home that she had been raised in, Neela now resides in American comfort. Some might think her home a bit sparse, but it had a comfortable couch to stretch out on, a chair where she could curl up, a small TV by some people’s standards, and a fireplace. The dining room held a small table. Even the artwork had a definite Japanese flair. Hirata knows he is competing with a lot, but mostly Neela’s stubbornness and her temper.

Hirata: Neela, look it’s this simple. We are all Mother has. None of us expected her to be the crazy woman in the village. How did we know when you left she was at the beginning of the onset of Alzheimer’s. Reiko has the children and Mother to look after and she is at her wits end.

Neela turns around to face her brother, determined to stand her ground.

Neela: Then hire some help! You got the same amount as I did when father died. Mother got even more, hire money from what she has.

Hirata: That money is intended for when we can’t work anymore!

Neela: You know the last time I look, Father never said that. In fact it was the opposite. I was told he left mine to me with the message to follow my dreams.

Hirata: Well yeah….

Neela: So I followed my dreams! I’m living it right now! It’s not my fault that you decided to save yours until you’re too old to enjoy it!

Hirata: But that’s still not the point. Mother…

Neela: I’m TIRED of hearing Mother this, Mother that! Our so reverent Mother told me that if I continued with what my father started, she would disown me! You stood there right next to her….and you actually agreed!

Hirata reaches up and before either knows what has happened, Hirata slaps Neela hard across the face.

Hirata: If I can’t reason with words, then maybe I need to beat you within an inch of your life!

Wrong words and actions. Neela slaps him hard back, causing him to stumble. Neela then charges and throws a shoulder into Hirata. There were many things they didn’t have in common, and their father’s wrestling training was one of them. Hirata goes to the ground with this, and Neela gets down and starts punching him.

Neela: If you EVER hit me again you will regret it! Do you understand me now?

Suddenly Neela is pulled off her brother and someone has her around her waist so she can’t attack Hirata again as he gets up, one eye bruising quickly and blood flowing freely from his nose. He pulls a handkerchief from his jacket pocket and holds it to his nose. But Neela is far from done with her brother. Just the small problem of who had hold of her…..

Brian: Knock this off!!! I swear everyone within two miles can hear you!

Brian Brewster heard the noise inside his home next door, and had come to investigate, wanting to make sure Neela was ok. He had knocked but the yelling coming from inside proved that no one heard him. He had walked in just as Neela had charged at the strange man in her home. Brian knew it was about to be a bad scene and it had taken him a couple moments to get Neela off of the man, but he finally did, although the damage was already done. Neela struggles against Brian’s type grasp around her waist.

Neela: Damn you Brian! Let go of me!

Brian: I said no! I don’t know who he is….but I don’t think he deserved that!

Neela slows down, taking some deep breaths. Brian wasn’t going to release her until she didn’t want to beat the crap out of Hirata, and she knows he has a lot of training with tempers, being around Lynn so much. Finally she is calm enough that Brian can let go.

Brian: That’s better. Cripes Neela, I’ll be surprised if the cops don’t show up. What the hell is going on here, and who is that?

Brian points to Hirata who has gone into the kitchen area to try and clean up a bit.

Neela: That….**pointing to Hirata** is my brother who has come all the way from Okinawa to tell me I have to return home to take care of our mother because he’s took freakin cheap to pay for care for our mother.

Brian blinks, looking from Neela, then to Hirata, then back.

Brian: I think you told me your mother was alive, not sure I knew you had any brothers and sisters.

Neela: I have one brother who has this mentality that since our father is dead, he’s the man of the house and he can ….control my life!

Brian: Calm down Neela, I’ve never seen you this worked up. Did you tell him no?

Neela: Several times! I told him I would help pay for care for our mother, I told him to use the money our father left our mother to pay for it. I’ve told him that I’m not returning to Uruma! I have no intention of going back there EVER!

Brian: Can I presume then that you beating the crap out of him is a result of that.

Neela: He slapped me!

Brian turns and looks at Hirata.

Brian: Is that true? Did you slap her?

Hirata: I…….did…..do….what…..you…..say.

Hirata’s English isn’t the greatest and it is slow coming to he can speak it and apparently does understand it rather well. Brian walks over to the kitchen and steps very close to Hirata. Hirata sees the anger in Brian’s eyes, but Brian keeps his voice calm and level.

Brian: Where you live? It might be ok to strike a woman, or treat her like she has no mind of her own. Do you have a wife?

Hirata nods.

Brian: Do you treat her like you treated your sister? Do you order her and then strike her if she disobey?

Hirata lowers his eyes as if in shame.

Brian: I thought so. I don’t know the laws of your country, but here? We have laws against striking women. I live right next door and if I hear of striking Neela again, not only will you answer to me, but I will get my family involved. If Neela has said no, then the answer is no.

Brian walks over to Neela and puts a hand on her shoulder.

Brian: You going to be ok?

Neela: Yeah, you know I can handle myself pretty good.

Brian: I know. But if you need me, I’m literally a yell or phone call away. And I can get Cam and Steve if I need to.

Neela pales at the mention of Steve, making Brian pause for a moment to wonder why. But he shakes it off for the moment. He starts for the front door.

Brian: Also I suggest you have your…..brother go get a motel room. He stays here and I’m afraid it will get worse.

Neela nods. Brian smiles and leaves, closing the door behind him. Neela turns and looks at Hirata, who although the bleeding has stopped looks like he was run over by a train.

Neela: Brian’s right. You need to get out of her. I prefer you go home but it’s your choice.

Hirata also heads for the front door. He stops though.

Hirata: I’m not done Neela, you will come home with me. In the end you’ll know that this wrestling thing is a passing fad you have, and home is your rightful place.

Hirata leaves, leaving Neela alone. She sits down, trying to calm her nerves. She knows as long as Hirata is anywhere near her, things won’t be normal. He wanted her to go home, how will he feel when Hirata finds out that she has an American boyfriend. How would her boyfriend’s family take it when they find out he is seeing Neela, someone who is fifteen years younger than himself.

To Be Continued

On Camera

The scene opens to Neela sitting on her small patio, a gentle but warm breeze blowing. The SCW World title sits on the small glass table by her chair, her hair pulled back. She wears a purple shirt and darker purple pants, accenting her gentle beauty. She is looking out across the beach before she finally speaks.

Neela: You know Brian I expected something, anything from you. A comeback that you will beat me come Overdrive, that my arrogance was going to be my downfall, which I would come back that I’m not arrogant, but simply sure. But nothing, absolutely nothing. So instead I’ll talk about why I should remain champion, a small history lesson if you will, and hope you don’t mind. Maybe it will help you understand why I should remain champion over Overdrive.

Neela takes a sip of water before she starts.

Last year, it was about the end of March and was put into a match that due to people leaving the company meant I would have a shot at the world title if I won. I took on this girl….I can’t even describe her to you except to tell you she was the densest thing since rocks came into existence. Seriously she saw me as some cheerleader, forgetting that for a short time I was trained by the same person who trained her. I defeated her and next thing I know I’m head lining for the first time….well ever in my career. My next opponent……

I don’t know how to describe her. I know she and that other girl I faced are still running around in other feds, and maybe they are both succeeding. But the girl I faced when it was for this title? She had issues, personal issues, and man she was a bit messed up in the head. Did it affect her in the ring? I’m not one to say, I’m not qualified to say, but I faced her twice and one of those times? It was the second time when I was defending the title and it was in an electrified cage. I admit, it was my first cage match and both Cam and Lynn had trained me for cage matches, but how do you train when you are surrounded by a cage that will send hundreds, if not thousands of volts of electricity through you. It was a hard match for me….a very hard match. At the end the war between Jordan and Cam suddenly involved me, you know the whole guilt by association type thing. I won the match fair and square, no one helping me. How could they when I was surrounded by THAT cage.

I admit at the end of that match….ok I wasn’t ladylike, I wasn’t my poised self. I did something I shouldn’t have but….

Neela picks up the title and looks at the bottom of it carefully.

I think I got all the blood off, but I drove this title into her forehead. I wanted to prove a point, the point that you can’t underestimate me, can’t think you know me because you can never fully know me. It’s part of who I am….part of what makes me so good in the ring.

You saw my last opponent before you, Jesse Owusu, and you saw the match. You were at the top of the ramp applauding when I pinned him and walked up that ramp STILL the SCW World champion.

Neela stands up and leans against the concrete block wall that surrounds her patio, her elbows supporting her head as the wind blows the loose strands around her face. She is deeply thinking and finally turns around, her elbows still on the wall, her body in perfect profile.

This history lesson is to show you Brian that over the last year my opponents have become tougher, harder and each time I step in that ring I have to give more. But instead of backing down, instead of being a shrinking violet and acting like I can’t do it, I’ve rose to the occasion each and every time and not just given my all, but given more. The title proves that I’m the best in the company…at this time. I know, strange way of putting it, but I’ve stated it before but as the talent gets better, the harder I have to prove I am the best. But I welcome the challenge, I welcome it in a way that….I can’t even put into words, I welcome it that much. It’s like this match. I’ve faced you once, I do know your moves, your ways and it’s those things that I can refine my training towards. Not just concentrate on one or two things….but the overall package if you will.

I hope Brian that you are ready. Because I know I hope to walk into the second year of SCW’s existence as the champion, showing that one thing is for certain, that the SCW World title isn’t handed around like a hot potato, like some feds that have come before us or may exist now. The SCW World title is one of prestige, one that anyone who wants a shot will have to fight for it. I am here to prove that SCW is a company that is not only up and coming, but is quickly becoming one of the top companies there is.

Brian’s phone has been ringing non stop. His stay in Colorado is being cut short as his family back east is calling for him to come home. He finally looks over where Mel should be and notices that she is gone. He looks to the clock.

10:23a.m.

Brian thinks to himself, wondering why he never heard the alarm clock go off. He gets up and goes to the bathroom. Thinking about how he needs to win this match. He boots up his laptop as he walks down stairs looking for Mel and again wondering what took him so long to wake up. He looks at his phone.

Missed calls 17
Voicemail 4
Text Messages 38

As he starts scrolling his missed calls. He notices that Moses has called him now 6 times, he already knows what is going to be said. His upcoming match at Bloodzone is against his cousin. Knowing that this match could cost him his best friend. He decides not to call him back right now. He has 7 missed calls from Mel. Knowing that she is pissed, he now listens to his voice mail as he walks down the steps to his kitchen. Sitting at his table is Scotty. Brian looks at him, not even wanting to talk just yet. Pours him a cup of coffee and walks back up the steps.

Scotty: “Bri, hurry the hell up. Damn, you will be late to your own grave cousin.”

Brian doesn’t even pay attention. His last 4 calls are from Andrew. He now listens to his voice mail. For once, Mel isn’t pissed, she knows why he didn’t wake up. She turned off his alarm clock. He has two from Moses, wanting to meet up and talk and his last one is from Andrew. He just wanted to make sure Brian is ok. Brian was supposed to be at the gym, ready to work out at 9:30 and never showed up, Mel called him. This Brian didn’t like. He wonders is Mel is with Andrew right now. Instead of with him, where he feels where she belongs.

He goes brushes his teeth, washes his face and then walks back downstairs. He looks at Scotty, angry that he let himself in, also wanting to know why he was just sitting at his kitchen table, doing nothing. Not even watching TV. Even though he is his cousin, he shouldn’t be mad.

Brian: “What are you doing? Just sitting here like our a stalker.”

Scotty laughs, he stands up and walks over to the TV and turns it on.

Scotty: “I just got here and yeah, I let myself in. You got a problem with that?

Brian: “It’s just weird, that’s all. What are you here for anyways?”

Scotty knows something is bothering his younger cousin, and he plans on getting it out of him. What ever it is, Scotty will get Brian to tell him. But what is bothering Brian? It is the people he is facing right now, across the wresting industry. Neela, J-Dogg and finally Diablo. He knows that he has to come away from these matches with a win. He knows that this is his chance to show the world that Brian Kennedy is still on top.

(A few hours later)

Brian shows up at the gym, Melissa isn’t there like he thought. Scotty walks up to Andrew and shakes his hand. Brian stays away for a few moments making the call. Andrew knows who he is calling and doesn’t bother his partner. Scotty nods at Brian asking Andrew without talking what is up his cousins ass.

Andrew: “You already know, he is having a match, actually two matches that he has to win. He is in game mode and that is where I want him. Where I need him.”

Scotty nods his head. He knows that Brian needs to be in this mode but never thought that he would be acting like this. Neela has already said some things that has stuck with him. First thing is first, Brian is going to worry about the task at hand, the one that will lead to him holding his first title since his return. The SCW World Title. Everyone who isn’t Empire doubts him and his ability and for once, He is wondering who among his own is doubting him. He walks over to the weights and grabs the 65lb dumb bells. As he sits them down he looks at Scotty.

Brian: “Tell me, where did I go wrong in that last match? Why am I not the SCW World Champion?”

Andrew: “You should be, I have watched the replay of this match and the ref did count the three and never called for the bell.”

Scotty knows that Brian is not going to like hearing what he has to say here. Knowing that when he speaks these next few words, that this could cause problems for him and his cousin.

Scotty: “Listen, Bri, if you would have kept your anger in check, you would have won that match. But you just took it too far fighting with the ref and not kept your focus on Neela, she is not one of those chumps you been fighting so far. You lost because you lost your focus. Now you need to keep your focus in this upcoming match and beat her.”

Brian’s face turns red from the anger that is amounting inside him. He looks at his cousin wanting to start a fight with him right there inside the gym. Andrew knows that this could cause turmoil among their team if he speaks.

Andrew: “Listen Bri, you know me, and you know that I speak the truth. You lost because of what you cousin said, you starting arguing with the ref and didn’t pay attention to Neela, now your getting a second chance. I know you can beat her and you will bring home gold to The Empire. And look, we are growing now only in SCW, but UHW as well. Curtis joined us again, speaking of which. He will be back here before too long. We have to answer Diablo as well. Did you hear what he said?”

Brian shakes his head, nothing has been on his mind since his loss to Neela. He has this match and the one against Moses cousin. This is starting to get to him, knowing that what he does in the ring isn’t going to cause him one of his best friends, but Diablo. Because what history they have isn’t good.

Brian: “I will check it out later. Let’s get working out”

Just then Curtis walks in, the four of them stand there talking for a few moments before Brian’s phone rings. Brian answers his phone, walking away from the group of men who are all working out, doing curls and Curtis who is on the bench working out, trying to catch up to where his three partners are at. Andrew is his spot as Brian finishes up his phone call and comes back to the guys.

Scotty: “Come on, your set, you have put it off enough now. Get to work!”

Curtis laughs as Brian sits down on the bench and unracks his 405, he starts doing his set as Andrew looks at his friend. Wondering if his mind will be in the Tag Team match that they have in UHW. They have been undefeated since Death Sentence has returned. He wants to remain that way too. This is going to be a real test and he knows his, but does Brian?

Andrew: “Brian, you have a few days till your match against Neela, after this, we have to focus on Brown Pride.”

Brian finishes his set and looks up at Andrew. This is what Brian was starting to worry about. His partners thinking that he was in over his head.

Brian: “Look, you know I got this. Have I ever let you down Andrew? Name once!”

Brian gets up and grabs his bags and leaves.

Andrew: “Scotty, what is wrong with your cousin? I wasn’t trying to make him think that he would let me down, I know he would never do that.”

(Later at his house)

Brian is watching the footage of what Neela had to say about their up coming match. He knows that this is his last chance to win the World Title in SCW. Or this is what he thinks anyways. Brian has come so far since he has gotten out and back in this business. He doesn’t want to let down his fellow Empire Members. He is starting to feel bad from what he said to Andrew earlier and Melissa and him have talked about it. She as always is standing beside her man and has helped him understand what Andrew was meaning as she as talked to him, he explained what was going on and wants to make sure he has no doubt in his partner.

Brian: “Babe, I am going to answer this. I have to, or I have no chance in getting into her head before this match. At this point, she thinks she has the upper hand."

Mel: “So, how do you want me to help you love?”

Brian: “Just set up the computer so I can do my airing on the net. I don’t need to do anything too much, just make my thoughts felt. Not only to the SCW roster, but to Neela herself. Right now she is sitting pretty on her little pedestal. And well, I am going to make sure she knows that I am still here. Ready to take her Title from her.”

Mel boots up the laptop and gets it ready for her man. Brian goes to the kitchen and grabs himself a glass of tea, waiting for his wife to let him know that the computer is ready for him. When she gets his attention he walks over to the computer and he sits down. He logs on to SCW.Com, just as he does an alert lets him know that someone he has been following on SCW.Com has news. He clicks on it and Neela has cut a second promo in a row. This is the point where Brian knows Neela is feeling she has Brian right where she wants him. Nothing more or better than to prove her wrong.

Brian clicks on the SCW.Com and clicks on live feed, Brian lights a Black and Mild as he looks in to the camera with a look that you have not seen out of Brian in several years, since his days from UHW when he was the Unified Champion. In the back ground you can see the award shelf that Brian has set up in his house to remember all the achievements that he has made through out his career. Each section is marked off by the company that he won them in. You can see UHW, PWO, EHW, and UCW from where he is sitting, the rest is out of camera view.

Brian: “Neela, you know, you are earning my respect each and every time I listen to you speak. You are not like all those other stupid women in this business. And what I am meaning, well look around the circle we are in and that should speak for it’s self. I have already said this and I will repeat myself once again, you deserve to be in this business and don’t let any of those people try and say different. You are the only person since my return who has defeated me. There are questions as to how you done it, and well. We will be stepping I the ring to do it once again. I am glad that you admit that I took you to limits that you never knew existed. This means you are growing as a wrestler, and to be honest. I am proud that I am one of those people who helped you discover something about yourself. We also broke your silent treatment. Look, you done two promo’s speaking about our up coming match.

Brian does his trademark smirk. The one we all have grown to either love or hate.

You know, I might not know your new “style” your bringing to the ring. We can both say the same thing. But in the heat of battle we will find out who is the better wrestler in this match. Because I am going to do my best to beat you, take the SCW World Title from you and bring it home to the Empire. You talk about how bigger and badder men have tried to knock you out. I done it to Sadler and I sure as hell will do it to you. I know what I am able to do. The question is, do you? Do you know what you are willing to do to win? Being part of The Empire is being willing to do what it takes to win, to make sure you achieve what you set out to do. By any means necessary and will Neela, I am that person. I will do what it takes to win. I let you get one past me and I won’t do it again. I won’t take another loss to someone who doesn’t even realize the true power that lies within them.

You can keep on thinking that I underestimate you, didn’t I already say that wasn’t the case with us? I realize that you are someone who should be taken serious because, that was told to you in my first promo for this match. I already admitted what the problem was. Since then, I have searched my mind and have found the problem. This isn’t fun for me like it was when I was here in this business before. Now I take it serious and that is the problem. I look at it as a must for me to be the best. Is that a problem though?

He grows silent, looking for the right statement.

I don’t think so, for me, this is a reason to come to Overdrive and beat you. Make you realize who I am. You see, you think for some reason that you will walk right in the ring. Hit me with a few moves and I will fall. I am no Giant, and I will not fall that easy. Neela, the faster you realize this, the better you will be in the end. When the smoke clears. Cam has already told you about me. The one person who will beat you, the one person who can beat you and Neela, I have over come the problems that I have on my own. I have trained harder and become that much better in the mere few weeks that it has been since we last stood toe to toe. At this point, the ones who have trained us doesn’t not matter in this match. You know why?

Because it is not them who are stepping in the ring to see who walks out The World Champion. You are so amped for this match, that you didn’t sit back and really take a look at me or what I am about. With your culture there is something called honor. And while you were in a rush to come back thinking that I live and breath SCW and our match. You are dead wrong. You think that you know me. That you know what I am about. Well, it is people like you who underestimate me.

Yes Neela, it was you, the one person that I do respect as a wrestler. Who I thought for a minute that you grew out of the rookie mistakes and the way of a curtain jerker. While you have that World Title, you are still learning this business. It doesn’t matter who trains you, works with you or the dead parents that make you the person you are. They are the ones who will make you a Living Legend.

Brian shifts in his chair. Getting more comfortable, this is just starting for Brian. He is trying, even though Neela is no parts of The Empire. He is still a fan, he still admires her for what she has done in the year as World Champion.

You used the first two minutes of your second promo, stating that you expected more from me. That I should cut you down. Why? Why should I cut someone down that I have already admitted that you are something great, something special in this business.

He shakes his head.

You stated that I said nothing. Why should I rush for you? Are you some sort of Princess? Royalty that I should jump at the very second you think I should? Come on Neela, this Championship is starting to go to your head. And what you said about your year as Champion? What in the hell were you thinking? This has nothing to do about what we are going to do in the ring. If I wanted to, I could give you history lessons too. Look behind me, I have reigned Champion in every company I have stepped in to. But, the revealance of that would be moot. Nothing but wasting time and really Neela, this is your rookie mistake. You said you know my moves,

Brian laughs.

The reason I lost Neela, isn’t because you are a better wrestler that I am. It is because I lost my temper and fought with the ref for too damn long. Thinking that the match should be over and I should be holding the SCW World Title right now. If you studied me like you said, you would know that. Should we replay the match for you?

He stops himself for a second.

No, we shouldn’t because like I said about your past year of being Champion, the past doesn’t matter. What matters now is what is happening right now. That is you are walking in to the ring, Champion, and you should be worried that walking out. You might not be it. You might not be the World Champion starting the second year of this companies existence. I agree, this company is growing to be one of the best. That is why I am here and I plan on staying here. Not as just a wrestler. But, as a Champion. You’re right, The SCW World Title does mean something. And That is why I am going to work hard to get it. Once I obtain it, I am going to hold it with honor just like you are now.

Neela, I am not the sort of person who repeats himself, but I want to make sure you understand that I respect you. Not only as a wrestler, but as a woman. You have broken the barrier that I actually at first thought you didn’t do. For this I am sorry. I can put you up there with Amy, Lynn and Shion. You are a great wrestler and I hold a great amount of respect for you. I also want to let you know. You can have a spot among the Empire even though I doubt your trainers wouldn’t allow you to be caught dead with us. Also if you ever need someone to have your back. I will be there no matter what happens in our match at Overdrive. Win, lose, or draw. I would have your back. No hidden agendas no nothing. Just truth and facts.

With that Brian logs off and the scene fades.
